With four albums, several EPs, a talk show, a BET award, two NAACP Image Awards and a Daytime Emmy Award nomination – @willowsmith has evolved since we first heard her on “Whip My Hair” when she was only 11 years old.
“Willow Smith has taken every label thrust her way and dismantled them piece by piece to create a sound and a sense of authenticity that leaves no room for question marks.”

WILLOW has forayed into several different genres of music throughout her career – most recently punk rock with her single “transparentsoul” featuring blink-182’s Travis Barker.
“I used to get bullied in school for listening to Paramore and My Chemical Romance. Just through the music that I’m putting out right now and the representation that I can bring to the mix, I just hope that the Black girls who are listening to my music and listening to this album see that there’s more of us out there. It’s a real thing, you’re not alone. You’re not the only Black girl who wishes she could flip her hair to the side and wear black eyeliner,” she says.
The LIB team obviously recommends you listen to “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l” or – if you’re feeling nostalgic – “Whip My Hair”. Some of our other personal favorites, though are “Time Machine”, “Wait a Minute!”, and “PrettyGirlz”.
